This is a packed one day overview of how to find a company to invest time, energy and money in order to get a successful return.
The day starts by considering where you can utilise your knowledge and skills to the company’s maximum benefit taking into account the position of the company in its life from pre-start, start-up, early-stage to expansion. During the first break each attendee has chance to review their goals for their intervention. This leads into an overview of how returns can be made, portfolio management, etc. After lunch a review of the attributes is followed by an overview of the intervention time-line. Prior to a final break there is brief discussion of the key lead sources. A guest investor will give a brief overview of how they found and got their return before the day concludes with a discussion of risks and mitigation strategies.
This one day workshop only skims the surface of the considerations required for a successful intervention in a company. Four further workshops spend considerably more time on each topic, include specially selected guest speakers and exercises in order to consolidate key learning points.
Who should attend
You should attend this workshop if:
- You are considering spending time and/or money working with a business.
- You have never invested in a small company before but think it may be a good idea.
- You want to reduce the amount of time you devote to finding companies to work with.
- You want to reduce the number of failing companies you invest time or money with.

- You are concerned about the risks of working with the management team of small companies.
- You wish to diversify your investment portfolio by using a new asset class (private equity in unlisted businesses).
Pre-requisites
You must have one of the following:
- At least two days per month you wish to invest spending time working in/on a company and at least £100,000 of free funds you wish to invest (being registered as a High Net Worth Individual or Sophisticated Investor).
- You wish to spend at least a day a week working with an aspiring and keen management team of a small business.
Guest speaker
An inspirational Guest Speaker will give an overview of how they intervened in a company and exited with more money than they invested. They’ll cover some of the highlights of their time working with the management team and touch on some of the strategies they used to help ensure success.
Outcome
By attending this workshop you will understand the magnitude of the task of finding a good opportunity to recovering your investment of time and/or money. You will know how the stages the companies go through when growing and know which point is optimal for your successful intervention. You will understand some of the decisions and resulting trade-offs you will need to make in order to be successful.
